INFORMATION SCIENCE PROJECTS

Fall 2020

Accounts Payable vs. Population | Information Exposition.

For my final project in Information Exposition, I analyzed the total spending of each department in the City of Boulder, using their accounts payable data in a python notebook. Then cross analyzed the trends with the estimated population growth in the city.

There is an estimated population increase in 2018 by 1% or around 4,000 people. This increase in population correlates to increases in spending for certain departments such as Public Works - Utilities, and Parks and Open Spaces. Interestingly there is a decrease in spending on public transportation in 2018.

Fall 2019

Increase Participation in the City of Boulder| Information Ecosystems.

To understand the participation of CU Students at various City of Boulder events, my project team and I interviewed, surveyed, and observed students outside of the campus sphere.

Throughout our project, we found that the most prevalent aspect of the information ecosystem was social order. To end up the way we did with our final product consisted of breaking the norms and social values. In our solution, we proposed that there be a club started for students who are passionate about civic engagement to galvanize others. This changes the social norm to an identity where students benefit from their engagement.
